You can tell how bad a book it will be by the failed attempt on the cover. He completely misses the original authors example.

How so? According to the actual German text of the plate, the Thrust of Wrath is used to counter a cut from above, exactly as the modern picture shows (see Talhoffer 1467 fol. 3r). To help you understand this technique, you can see a more developed description of it in Jörg Wilhalm's Codex I.6.2.2. fol. 4r and in his BSB CGM 3712 fol. 99r. I hope that will help you understand how this technique works.
